Get Into Golf
Get into Golf is a national campaign to inspire you to take up golf and to play more often. It is run by England Golf and supported by Sport England, Sky Sports and National Lottery Funding. Here at The Mendip Golf Club we are an official Get into Golf Partner and run various courses throughout the year.
How Get into Golf Works
Short session, usually an hour. Find out more about the sport, tour the golfing club, meet a golfing professional, Q&A session, learn the basics and hit some balls in a mini-coaching session.
Open Day - Monday 7th May - 9.00am - 16.00pm
Step 1 - Five Week Beginner Course
The first step in our programme will see participants introduced to the very basics of playing golf during five one-hour sessions. Over the five weeks we cover the main skills needed to play golf; putting, chipping, pitching, iron shots and tee shots.
The start dates for these courses are:
- Monday 23rd April 6.00pm – 7.00pm
- Wednesday 2nd May, 6.00pm – 7.00pm
- Saturday 5th May, 12.00pm - 13.00pm
- Monday 11th June, 6.00pm – 7.00pm
Step 2 - Two Week Improvers / Advanced Course - £35
Following on from the beginners’ course, the Improvers course takes place entirely on the golf course. The sessions are 90 minutes in duration, and as a group we play the course and explain the tactical side of playing the golf course including basic etiquette and rules.
The follow-on stage is all based on the golf course. Putting the newly found skills to work and learning how to play the game. With rules and etiquette guidance, at this stage you really will be ready for the course.
The start dates for this course are:
- Monday 2th June, 6.00pm – 8.00pm
Step 3 - 2 Month Trial Membership - £80.00
Once someone has completed steps 1 and 2, the natural progression is to play as much golf as possible whilst developing their skills. Our 2 month trial membership provides:
- Unlimited play of the golf course
- 2 x 30 minute 1-on-1 lessons with one of our PGA coaches
- The chance to gain an official CONGU handicap
- Unlimited use of the clubhouse & practice facilities*
- The opportunity to meet existing members and play golf with them
Step 4 - Full Membership at The Mendip Golf Club
With a variety of membership options to suit everyone, there is no better opportunity to Get Into Golf!
Frequently Asked Questions
I have never played golf before, am I good enough for Get into Golf?
That's not a problem at all! We often have people attend who have never held a golf club before. All the coaching is very simple and easy to understand.
Do I need to bring my own clubs?
No we provide all the equipment for steps 1 and 2, although you are welcome to bring your own clubs with you if you have some. If progressing on to the trial membership you will need your own clubs. We stock low-cost beginners’ sets in the Pro Shop at The Mendip Golf Club and offer free advice to ensure you have the best equipment for your game.
I'm not sure what I should wear - is there a dress code?
We don't have a dress code for our Get into Golf lessons. We usually recommend smart casual clothing you will feel comfortable playing golf in. Golf shoes are not required for steps 1 and 2, although again you're welcome to wear an existing pair.
When undertaking the trial membership we do require you to wear golf shoes on the course and follow our dress code. These can be purchased from our Pro Shop.
Does it cost a lot of money to play golf?
No, it can actually provide great value for money. Someone can attend steps 1 and 2 of Get into Golf and spend just £60 for over 10 hours coaching with all equipment provided! Our trial membership is also great value. Across several months you can spend as little £140 to progress through all 3 steps of Get into Golf and become an established golfer.
Who takes the coaching sessions?
The beginners and improvers courses are group coaching sessions taken by our resident PGA golf coach, PGA Fellow Professional and PGA Development Professional of the Year 2016, Stuart Disney and PGA Teaching Professional Josh Hirst.
How long does it take to learn golf and join the club permanently?
The time this takes varies depending on each individual's commitments, although it should take an average beginner 4-6 months to complete all 3 steps of Get into Golf and feel confident enough to play the golf course and apply for membership of the club.
What dates are courses taking place and how can I sign up?
You can view all the latest courses and book yourself in by visiting the Get into Golf website and searching for BA3 4UT.
