Get Into Golf
Get into Golf is a national campaign to inspire you to take up golf and to play more often. It is run by England Golf and supported by Sport England, Sky Sports and National Lottery Funding. Here at The Mendip Golf Club we are an official Get into Golf Partner and run various courses throughout the year.
How Get into Golf Works
Short session, usually an hour. Find out more about the sport, tour the golfing club, meet the golf professional, Q&A session, learn the basics and hit some balls in a mini-coaching session.
Step 1 - Five Week 'Get into Golf' Course
The first step in our programme will see participants introduced to the very basics of playing golf during five 60 minute sessions. Over the five weeks we cover the main skills needed to play golf; putting, chipping, pitching, iron shots and tee shots as well as learning to play on the golf course. We also cover rules and golf etiquette to get you ready for the next stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
I have never played golf before, am I good enough for Get into Golf?
That's not a problem at all! We often have people attend who have never held a golf club before. All the coaching is very simple and easy to understand.
Do I need to bring my own clubs?
No we provide all the equipment for step 1, although you are welcome to bring your own clubs with you if you have some. If progressing on to the trial membership you will need your own clubs. We stock low-cost beginners’ sets in the Pro Shop at The Mendip Golf Club and offer free advice to ensure you have the best equipment for your game.
I'm not sure what I should wear - is there a dress code?
We don't have a dress code for our Get into Golf lessons. We usually recommend smart casual clothing you will feel comfortable playing golf in. Golf shoes are not required for step 1, although again you're welcome to wear an existing pair.
When undertaking the trial membership we do require you to wear golf shoes on the course and follow our dress code. These can be purchased from our Pro Shop.
Does it cost a lot of money to play golf?
No, it can actually provide great value for money. Someone can attend step 1 of Get into Golf and spend just £50 for over 9 hours coaching with all equipment provided! Our trial membership is also great value. Across several months you can spend as little £170 to progress through both steps of Get into Golf and become an established golfer.
Who takes the coaching sessions?
The beginners courses are group coaching sessions taken by our resident PGA golf coach, PGA Fellow Professional and PGA Development Professional of the Year 2016, Stuart Disney.
How long does it take to learn golf and join the club permanently?
The time this takes varies depending on each individual's commitments, although it should take an average beginner 4-6 months to complete both steps of Get into Golf and feel confident enough to play the golf course and apply for membership of the club.
What dates are courses taking place and how can I sign up?
Please see the course dates above and to sign up, please contact our Pro Shop team on 01749 840570, option 1 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
