The History Of The Ladies Trophies
LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY
Mr Gerald Wills the architect of the current club house gave this trophy to the ladies section in 1975 for the Ladies Club Championship best gross score. The competition of 36 hole stroke play is played over a weekend.
LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP NETT TROPHY
The original trophy for this competition was given by Mrs Margaret Habershon in 1976. It was replaced in 2003 due to damage. It is awarded to the lady with the best nett score over the two rounds of the Ladies Club Championship.
CHAMPION CHASERS
This Stableford competition is played on the Tuesday after the weekend of the Championship by ladies who do not compete in the 36 hole competition. It was given by Mrs Christine Williams in 2011.
ORDRER OF MERIT
The Order of Merit Trophy is awarded to the lady who returns the five best scores in relation to the standard scratch in all qualifying stroke play competitions played over the season.
FANSTONE CUP
This is a knock out match play competition which since 2015 has had a maximum handicap of 25.
The trophy was presented in 1957 by Mr AJH Collings.
CORSON CUP
This trophy was presented by Mrs Elizabeth Corson in 1975.
The competition is knock out match play for ladies who have either won or come second in eight nominated competitions during the previous season.
OPTIMISTS CUP
This trophy was presented in 2006 by Mrs May Curtis. Players with handicaps 26-36 may enter this knock out match play competition.
GRANNY TROPHY
This is a Stableford competition for all ladies who qualify as a Granny or Step-Granny. Mrs Joan Clark presented the trophy for this competition in 1999.
COURAGE TROPHY
This trophy was presented by Courage Western Ltd in 1970. It is played as a Greensomes medal.
REID TROPHY
This is Stableford competition open to all ladies and was presented by Mr William Reid in 1978.
CHALLENGE CUP
The Challenge Cup was presented in 1957. It is played as a singles 18 hole stoke play competition, the best nett score wins.
VYVYAN CLARE TROPHY
Mrs Vivian Clare presented this trophy in 1976.
It was then called a bogey competition now referred to as a par competition.
CENTENARY PLATE
This plate was made and presented by Mrs Fran Davies in 2008. It is played for in conjunction with an EG medal and is a combined competition for weekend and Tuesday players.
BARBARA JOSE
Mrs Barbara Jose presented the original crystal bell in 2000. It is a competition open to Tuesday players only and is played in conjunction with an EG medal.
COOPER GOBLET
The Cooper Goblet was presented to the Ladies Section by Ms Bron Cooper in 1997. It is played for on Ladies Captains day as a Stableford competition for Silver division ladies.
GLADYS SHEPHERD
The Gladys Shepherd Trophy is played for as a Stableford on Ladies Captains day for Bronze division ladies. It was presented in memory of Mrs Gladys Shepherd by her husband in 1983.
JOHN WAIN CUP
The John Wain Cup was presented by Mr John Wain in 1980. It was originally played for on the Ladies Silver Open competition being won by the best Mendip lady. This was changed when the competition was no longer played. It is now awarded to the player with the best score over three Stableford competitions played throughout the year.
D A ROBERTS TROPHY
Presented in 1983 by Mrs Derry Ann Roberts for the player reducing there handicap by the most over the playing season.
JANE TREBLE TROPHY
This is awarded to the player in the Alliance A team who achieves the most points in the matches. Presented by Mrs Jane Treble in 1981.
WILLIAMS TROPHY
The Williams Trophy was presented by Mrs Andrea Williams in 2005 for the player in the Alliance B team who achieves the most points in matches.
PARKES PLATE
Mrs Marie Parkes present the salver in 2006 for the Inter League player who achieves the most points in matches.
ENDEAVOUR SALVER
This Salver was presented by Miss Beth Horrell in 1978. It is won by taking part in Stableford competitions. Points are awarded for taking part and for winning or coming second.
PAST LADIES’ CAPTAIN’S TROPHY
This is an annual Stableford competition for all Mendip Past Ladies Captains. The crystal trophy was presented by Mrs Cora Pavey in 2001.
MADINA CUP
The Madina Trophy was given in 2006 by Mrs Margaret Allen & Mrs Edwina Willis to celebrate their terms as Ladies Vice Captain and Ladies Captain. This is a Greensomes match play competition played between the current Ladies Captain and Vice Captain against two challengers. At the end of the season the winners are announced; the winners being the players who win by the largest margin.
WINTER LEAGUE TROPHY
This trophy was given by Mrs Linda Brobson in 2013. It is played over the winter months to encourage ladies to brave the winter weather. It has been played in several formats.
SALLY TROPHY
The Alliance A & B Teams celebrate the end of their season by playing against each other for the Sally Trophy. It was given in 2012 by Mrs Edwina Willis and named after one of the then lady members.
