Mendip 'B' Team beat Mendip Spring 'B' 5-0

Avalon Golf League 2022

The Mendip B - 5 wins v Mendip Spring B - 0

Sat 17th Sept

What a brilliant result to wrap up the season with all 5 pairs winning convincing on a beautiful crisp autumnal day at The Mendip. The team needed one win to secure its place in the division and that point was gained so fittingly by the Avalon ever present Paul Smith and his partner Phil Leadbeater with another 'never in doubt' performance. The team needn't have worried as the wins kept coming and very satisfyingly they came early with 3 matches over on the 16th and the final two wrapped up on the 15th. The pairings of debutant Alex Gay and Rich Clifford, Tony Scott and Cliff Hall dominated their opposition to pick up solid wins. Encouragingly Jack Harrington and Lee Moore continued their rich seam of form picking up more points in the last three fixtures than they had all season, they have formed a partnership to be seriously feared in 2023. In the bottom match Liam Robertson produced his finest golf of the season, with reliability off the tee coupled with laser like approach play he brutalised the opposition to have him and partner Rob Cook 4 up at the turn leaving The Spring pair with no route back into the match. Cook, eventually holed a putt, a fiendish but straight uphill 5 footer on the 15th to envitably close out the match.

The Avalon B squad finished the '22 season in 3rd place in Division 6. The challenge of playing courses new to most of the squad early in the season put us in a perilous position in the league. However, faith was kept with developing partnerships and it eventually paid off. These pairings of Scott and Mark Necker in particular, Hall and Clifford, Harrington and Moore, Smith and Shaun Robertson plus Cook and Liam Robertson provided the spine of the team with valuable contributions from Rob Ware, Martyn Russell, Alan Padfield, Chad Patel, Leadbeater and Mal Srawley made a real difference. Contributions not just with points but to the laughs, team spirit and the momentum that built as the season progressed.

Well done, thanks and congratulations on a great season to all that played in '22. Roll on '23... lets get promoted!

Thanks

Rob Cook, 'B' Team Captain
