November 25th
It’s been another eventful couple of weeks here at Mendip, filled with memorable moments. While we didn’t have any horses or cows around, the scenery reminded me of the delightful antics found in a classic cartoon. Just take a look at our crispy flags during last week’s chilly snap!
We’ve experienced a mix of snow, sleet, and an overwhelming amount of rain. While some areas of the course have held up reasonably well, I urge everyone to give extra caution during this time of year. Please pay close attention to the ropes that have been placed; they are essential for guiding foot traffic and, in certain spots, ensuring everyone’s safety.
Over the past couple of weeks, some crucial work has taken place. The greens and tees were vertidrained to improve drainage. Additionally, we applied extra sand to the tees to help mitigate wear and tear from play — let’s hope this proves effective! Last week, we top-dressed the approaches, which should enhance their resilience during wet spells.
Unfortunately, the greens had to be placed on temporary greens last week to protect them from frost damage, as I had previously mentioned at the end of October. It’s important tthat the greens are protected when necessary during the winter period.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep the course in the best possible condition.
