Conditions of Play and Qualification

Conditions of play

The West of England U14 Championship will be decided by Stroke Play over 36 holes. The overall winner will be the competitors with the lowest aggregate gross score and there will also be a nett score winner. The Competition Committee’s decision in all matters is final.

In the event of a tie the Championship will be decided by play-off providing conditions allow. If a play-off isn't possible the Championship will be decided on countback, last 18, 9, 6 etc.

Where entries exceed 48 in number, there will be a handicap index ballot with the lowest 48 WHS indexes forming the start sheet and a reserve list drawn, with no change thereafter of WHS index affecting the list order.

Qualification

To be eligible to enter, a player must be:-

  • A member of a golf club affiliated through its County Union to England Golf, The Golf Union of Wales or Scottish Golf
  • In possession of a competition playing WHS handicap index not exceeding index 16.0 (boys) & 18.0 (girls) under the current WHS Handicapping System.

The South West County Golf Association and its Officials are pleased to welcome all Parents and Spectators to Junior Championships.  Please abide by our SPECTATOR CODE

The SWCGA reserves the right to prohibit parents/supporters from spectating on the course during specific competitions or matches. If parents are observed to breach such a prohibition or seen to be offering advice to players, or touching equipment the player will be penalised.

At all times, please exercise good golf etiquette, and respect host club policies.

If permitted to be on the course

• Please ensure your mobile phone is switched off.

• You should during play keep still and quiet.

• Do not walk close to players. This clearly avoids any allegations they have been offered advice. Even encouragement can be interpreted as advice. • Do not offer information to players on Local Rules (which are often different from those of the Club) or the Rules of Golf. Please do though ask referees or officials for help/advice with the Rules of Golf if necessary.

• You may offer players food, drink, and clothing between holes

• You should keep to the sides of fairways.

• You should stay away from any ball in play.

• You may assist in ball spotting and searching – allowing for the 3-minute rule permitting such a search.

• You should not touch a ball if it might be a player's ball.

• You must not carry or handle a player's clubs or equipment as the player can then be liable to a General Penalty (2 shots) - your actions could be construed as caddying.

• You may assist evacuating players in the event of a weather suspension.

• If you wish to take pictures during play, you should first obtain a permit from the Secretary.

Remember - outside interference from a parent, supporter or spectator may render a competitor liable to penalty
