Seniors Mendip Vase

On Thursday the course was full again for the Seniors Mendip Vase. Players from all over Somerset, and also Devon Dorset Glos. & Wilts had booked to play - 41 clubs and 192 players. Truly a huge field.
The whole day was smoothly organised by Trevor Howse (with his many helpers) and some £346 was raised for SWEDA, his chosen charity.
This year the visitors did really well picking up 8 prizes, but the main one the Seniors Mendip Vase was convincingly won, once again, by a Mendip player John Jarvis, with 43 points.

The Jim Jeffrey Putter

The Jim Jeffrey Putter (a Flag Competition) attracted some fine performances and resulted in a titanic struggle between young Matt Rawlings and the rather more mature Chris Jackson. Both came to the 19th Tee with shots to spare, Matt 5 and Chris 8. Matt nearly reached the 2nd Green (20th hole) but Chris just outpaced him by reaching nearly to the flag on the 2nd Green.

Junior Club Championship

On Monday the Juniors played for the Championship, and it was no surprise, considering his recent form, to see that our Junior Club Champion is Tom Hurst. He had two excellent rounds of golf playing to par 71 on both occasions, giving a total of 142 and has now got his handicap down to 3. A worthy champion.
The runner up with rounds of 80 and 75 is Tom Rawlings.
In the Nett Competition Martin Lenihan was also the model of consistency scoring 78 on both rounds giving him 156-26 = 130 Nett.
The runner up was Alistair Wall 78+79=157-20=137.

Senior Mixed Greensome

On Thursday August 20th the course was full again for the inaugural Senior Mixed Greensome. There were 180 players from 30 clubs but Mendip players took four of the first six places including the winners - octogenarian Steve Stephenson and his charming wife Sylvia.

Members will have noticed that Adrian Marsh, our professional for a number of years, has decided to resign. This gives the Club an opportunity to look at the overall structure so John Jarvis has been asked to gather ideas from the membership about a replacement. Anyone who would like to make suggestions is asked to write to John at the Club as soon as possible.
