Ladies Results

The Ladies have been hiding their results for a little while, but now all can be revealed. On a wet and windy weekend the Ladies Club Championship was held. Under the conditions the very worthy winner was Fran Davies, who had previously won in 2007, with a total of 168. She was 6 shots ahead of Gill Brown on 174, who was 4 shots better than Jenny Merrett 178. The best nett for the Frost Cup was won by Andrea Williams with 157, 2nd was Linda Brobson on 158 and 3rd June Millington on 160. Best Round 1 nett Cora Pavey 78 and Round 2 Edwina Willis 77.

We have also had the Ladies Captain's Day which despite being reduced to nine holes because of the weather, was lubricated by some Pimms. The Cooper Goblet was won by Anne Hopkins, and the Gladys Shepherd Trophy by Carol Curtis.

The Past Ladies Captain's Trophy on July 30th was won by Edwina Willis.

Seniors

The Seniors have been battling on in their matches. At Long Ashton they lost by 4 games to 2 with one half, but the meal was livened up because the wife of one of the Long Ashton players had had a hole in one and he felt compelled to treat everybody to some wine!
In the match against Tidworth Garrison, our 1908 compatriots, we were competing for the Centenary Trophy. With a deficit of 4 games to 3 carried over from the away game a good result was needed. Whilst Captain John Whyman, aided by David Stevenson, did his bit others failed to perform well enough so a further loss by 4 games to 3 was recorded by Mendip, making the final total 8 games to 6. There is always next year!

Stephenson Cup

It has not taken long for Leon Clay to re-establish himself, as the good golfer he always was, having re-joined Mendip in April. In the Stephenson Cup on Sunday he scored a blistering nett 64 to ease out Chris Jackson on 66. A number of golfers saw their handicaps reduced this day.
