23rd June 2009 - New Course Record

As has previously been reported, George Morgan, scored a gross 65 whilst playing in the Sims Cup. In 1992, former member Martin Stephens, also scored a 65 and this was the course record. However since that time the course has been extended, and other changes have been made, so the Committee decided that the score of 65 by George on June 13th 2009 would be recognised as the new course record. Well done George.

The Seniors have played two matches recently. In the match at Tidworth they were competing for the first part of the trophy presented for Centenary Year by the respective Seniors Captains- Roger Miller of Tidworth and Mike smith from Mendip. At this stage Tidworth hold a 4 games to 3 advantage, but it is hoped that home advantage on August 3rd will allow Mendip to get their hands on the trophy.

In the match against Weston John Shakesby was given a difficult task. His partner, Rex Ladd, was unable to play, as his all singing, all dancing new motorised buggy failed to get off the starting blocks. John held his opponents to level for nine holes but then fell away to lose by 4 & 3. The match resulted in a win for Weston by 4 games to 2, with one halved game.

In the Ladies Silver/Bronze Open all the overall winners came from Mendip, and it is rumoured that they have had bus passes for many years! There were winners from other clubs, and the day was enjoyed by all.

Runners up were Duncan Offer & Martin Myers 76-5.5=70.5. Third were Brian Smith & Eric Jordan 83-12=71.
